Roger Goodell Waiting To Rule On Ray Rice Suspension

Posted Mar 26, 2014

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is monitoring the situation and is waiting for all the facts.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is monitoring Ray Rice’s legal situation, but he does not have an indication on whether Rice will be suspended.

“We’ll let the facts dictate that,” Goodell said at Wednesday’s NFL owners meetings.

Rice and his fiancée, Janay Palmer, were involved in an altercation at a casino in Atlantic City, N.J. during the early morning of Feb. 16. Both were reportedly charged with simple assault-domestic violence. No court date has been set, according to ESPN.

Head Coach John Harbaugh said that Rice and Palmer attended couples counseling after the incident.

Harbaugh and Owner Steve Bisciotti stood behind Rice at this week’s owners meetings, showing compassion for the running back and saying he will definitely be back with the team in 2014.

“I don’t know of any other player that’s ever generated as much goodwill in our building and in our community as Ray in those six years,” Bisciotti said Monday.

“I know how terribly disappointing it is to Ray and his fiancée, how embarrassing it is for them. I have to have compassion towards him.”
