Round 7: Ravens Select CB Marc Anthony

Posted Apr 27, 2013

With the 247th pick, Baltimore added depth to the cornerback corps with the California player.

The Ravens capped off their 2013 NFL Draft by adding another cornerback.

They drafted California cornerback Marc Anthony in the seventh round with pick No. 247 (compensatory), making him the last of the Ravens 10 selections this year.

“There is one thing that we never have enough of, and that’s corners,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome said.

Anthony played in 41 games, including 32 starts over the last four seasons. He started 10 games last year and recorded 52 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. He also had a 64-yard interception returned for touchdown.

At 5-foot-11, 196 pounds, Anthony has ideal size and length for an NFL cornerback. He has a combination of size and length that would allow him to match up on the outside against some of the big receivers in the NFL.

Anthony also has average speed for a corner, as he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds at the NFL Combine.

Anthony will join a secondary that already has a tight competition. That group includes Lardarius Webb, Jimmy Smith, Corey Graham, Chykie Brown, Chris Johnson and Asa Jackson.

Anthony’s initial role will likely be on special teams, which is the path that Jackson followed last season as a fifth-round pick.
