The Caw: 100-Year-Old Super Fan Visits Ravens

Posted Sep 20, 2013

Is Little Sisters of the Poor resident Marie Cusick the Ravens’ oldest fan?

As the saying goes, the Ravens aren’t playing the Sisters of the Poor this Sunday.

But they did get a visit from them Friday afternoon before taking on the Houston Texans.

The Catonsville-based Sisters of the Poor brought along one of their most special residents, Marie Cusik. Marie is about to turn 100 years old on Sept. 25.

Until I’m proven wrong, I’m declaring her the Ravens’ oldest fan. And in my book, that kinda makes her the biggest fan too.

“I’m a Ravens super fan,” Marie said. “I have been as long as they’ve been in Baltimore. In the season, we have nothing to do but watch the games, so that’s what I do.”

Marie, who proudly proclaimed that she was born and bred in Baltimore, Md., watches all the games on the big screen television (or the one in her room) at the home.

Marie shook hands with all the players as they walked off the practice field. They wished her a happy birthday, and Marie told Joe Flacco that she was praying for him.

Head Coach John Harbaugh was pretty impressed by Marie and the sisters’ devotion.

“They were here for the whole practice,” Harbaugh told the media. “They got out here for special teams and watched every single play. So if you guys have some questions, you can feel free to ask them.

“It was really fun having them. They’re great ladies. It was a special treat.”

This seems like a good time to give a shout out to my 90-year-old grandmother, Lillian Mink.

She’s been a lifelong Orioles fan and dove head first into becoming a Ravens fan when I started working here. She likes the game and has become really knowledgeable, but still doesn’t understand why the players have to pile on each other so much.
