The Caw: Jimmy Smith Ups Courtney Upshaw Demands From Steak To Car Rims

Posted Dec 30, 2015

After watching the tape of his nullified pick-six against the Steelers, Jimmy Smith wants something better.

Forget the streak dinner. That isn’t good enough for cornerback Jimmy Smith anymore.

After watching the tape of his nullified 101-yard pick-six in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Smith is increasing his demands of outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw.

Upshaw lined up in the neutral zone, drawing a yellow flag that wiped off the touchdown. Upshaw offered Smith “whatever you like” in the locker room afterwards, but hasn’t settled the matter yet.

“I thought I wanted a steak dinner, but after I re-watched the play, I think I needed more,” Smith said with a laugh. “I don’t know what I want. Maybe some new rims for my car, I don’t know.”

Smith already notched a pick-six earlier this year when he leapt over a Broncos receiver to snag a Peyton Manning pass, which he returned 24 yards for a touchdown.

But he’s never had an interception quite like the one he had in Pittsburgh. It also would have been his first career multi-interception game.

“That type of play is the play that every corner always dreams of,” Smith said. “That’s the first time that’s ever happened for me. Even in practice, that’s never happened.”

Making it even worse, Upshaw got a tap from cornerback Lardarius Webb, perhaps telling him to take a small step back. Upshaw moved a bit forward.

As fate would have it, Upshaw has a bone to pick with Smith too.

In one of his best games this season (outside of the penalty), Upshaw had two quarterback hits wiped out by defensive pass interference calls against Smith. Upshaw notched a huge sack on the Steelers’ final series.
