Yes, even the Ravens’ $120 million man plays the lottery.
I think this is hilariously awesome, and just proof that money hasn’t changed Flacco.
He went to McDonalds after signing his contract, rides the free airport shuttle, grocery shops and buys Christmas trees with his kid, and, yup, plays the lotto.
“It’s a lot of money, man,” Flacco said. “Since I’ve been 18 years old, I’ve always played the lottery when it gets up to a couple $100 million. It’s just for fun.”
But what would he do if he won?
“Not tell anybody,” Flacco said with a laugh.
A fan brought the story to light on Twitter after bumping into Flacco at the 7-11 in Owings Mills, just a couple miles from the Ravens’ training facility.
Rob Owen, 22, of Finksburg, Md., stopped in to buy a few mega millions tickets, but stood at the wrong cash register. As he went to another line, he was passed by a familiar face.
“The guy behind me beat me to the end of the line,” Owen said. “When I got there, I realized it was Joe. I was tongue tied.”
Flacco politely let Owen back in front of him.
“I couldn’t have him blaming me when I won and he lost and I didn’t let him back where he was supposed to be,” Flacco said.
The quarterback and Owen made a little chit-chat. Owen asked him if he was happy to be playing in a dome instead of more terrible weather. Flacco said the snow was fun but eventually tiring.
The two went through with their purchases. Owen got a picture with Flacco and posted it on Twitter. (Mobile users “View in browser” above)
Flacco didn’t end up winning. One winning ticket was bought in Georgia and the other was in California.
Flacco should have gone back after the Lions game and played 24, 29, 32, 40, 53 with 61 for the Mega Ball. They’re the yardages of
“I actually meant to stop off at 7-11 and get a ticket on the way home from the Lions game,” Flacco said. “I just forgot.”
