The Caw: Ravens Rally Behind Chuck Strong

Posted Nov 5, 2012

Players tweeted their support after seeing Chuck Pagano’s emotional locker room speech Sunday.

“Chuck Strong” isn’t just a rallying point in Indianapolis.

Several Ravens expressed support Sunday night for their former defensive coordinator as he fights leukemia.

On Monday, Head Coach John Harbaugh showed the entire team the video of Pagano’s emotional locker room speech following the Colts’ 23-20 win over the Dolphins.

Losing his hair and weight because of his treatment, Pagano left the hospital for the day to watch the Colts play. I won’t lie, his fighting spirit choked me up.

It is being reported by the Indianapolis Star this morning that Pagano’s cancer is now in remission, according to his doctors.

That news will be warmly received in Baltimore, where Pagano is still beloved. Notice I didn’t say, “was.”

It’s because the feelings for Pagano haven’t changed since he left to be the head coach of the Colts. When players see him on T.V. in the cafeteria, they look up to see what’s going on. Stories about Chuck still circulate the team facility.

Simply put, everybody is rooting for him (except not to get that Lombardi Trophy!).

“Chuck’s all heart … Chuck’s a fighter,” Harbaugh said. “We’re all proud of him.  We’re proud of the way they’re playing there and everything, and it was a neat moment.  It was neat for all people who are football fans out there to see that clip and see some insight into Chuck Pagano.”

Injured cornerback Lardarius Webb – who was coached directly by Pagano in the secondary – tweeted first Sunday night. Then defensive tackle Bryan Hall, wide receiver Torrey Smith and nose tackle Terrence Cody followed suit.

They all had a simple message:
