The Caw: Ronnie Stanley's Big Day Leads to Big Donation for Las Vegas

Posted Oct 9, 2017

The Ravens left tackle pledged to donate $1,000 to the Las Vegas shooting victims and their families for every passing play that he didn’t give up a sack, pressure or hurry. That’s 26 plays out of 27.

Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley bet on himself to benefit his hometown of Las Vegas, and he more than delivered.

Prior to Sunday’s game in Oakland, Stanley posted a photo of his cleats on Instagram with the message “Vegas Strong” written in Sharpie on the side. The photo came with this pledge:

“Today I will be playing for more than my team. To help support the victims of last week’s terror attack in my hometown, I will be donating $1,000 for every pass play I don’t give up a sack, pressure or hurry to the victims and their families. #vegasstrong”

Stanley subsequently went out and put up one of his best performances of the season against a very talented Oakland Raiders pass rush.

The 2016 first-round pick blocked on 27 passing plays. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just one hurry. He had the Ravens’ highest grade of the game.

"Great team win, and even more importantly, victims and families' lives will be positively affected from this game," Stanley posted on Instagram monday morning. "Happy I could help my hometown."

Breaking out the calculator, that means Stanley will donate $26,000 to Las Vegas victims and their families. Well done, sir.

Last week, Stanley talked about how difficult the shootings, which left 59 dead and more than 500 injured, were for him to see. News of the shooting was the first thing he saw when he woke up a week ago. He said everyone he personally knows was OK.

“Just trying to check in on my family, loved ones and close friends back home, it was kind of overwhelming,” Stanley said. “It was just another reminder of there’s a world outside of football, there’s a world outside of everything we have going on in our lives – to continue to keep focusing on the big picture.”
