WR LaQuan Williams Re-Signs With Ravens

Posted Apr 24, 2014

The former Maryland receiver and Baltimore native is back with the Ravens.

LaQuan Williams is back with the Ravens.

The Baltimore native and University of Maryland alum has rejoined the Ravens, he announced Thursday on Twitter.

“Feels good to be back home #RavensNation,” Williams tweeted.

Fellow wide receiver Torrey Smith also took to Twitter to welcome back Williams. Smith and Williams were also teammates at Maryland.

“My bro @I_amQuan back where he belongs #RavensNation,” Smith tweeted.

Williams spent the first two years of his career with the Ravens before getting released prior to the 2013 regular season. Williams missed much of the preseason last year with a hamstring injury, and the Ravens ended up parting ways with him.

Williams spent much of last year out of the NFL, but he did have a brief stint with the New England Patriots in November.

Williams has played in 23 career games and has four catches for 46 yards. He’s also made some big plays in preseason games, catching 13 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns.

He immediately enters a tight competition for a roster spot at receiver, joining Smith, Jacoby Jones, Steve Smith, Sr., Aaron Mellette, Marlon Brown, Deonte Thompson, Gerrard Sheppard and Kamar Aiken.

Williams’ impact will likely come on special teams, where he excelled during his two years with the Ravens. He worked as a gunner on kickoff and punt return teams, and that could likely be his role during offseason practices and into the preseason.
