Who's Playing, Who's Not vs. Cincinnati

Posted Dec 27, 2013

Defensive tackle Arthur Jones hasn’t yet been cleared to play, but Bengals are banged up.

DT Jones Hasn’t Been Cleared

It’s still unknown whether Ravens defensive tackle Art Jones (concussion) will be able to suit up for Sunday’s regular-season finale.

Jones hadn’t passed the NFL’s concussion protocol by the time Friday’s practice ended. Head Coach John Harbaugh said he’s still going through it and the team is expected to get results later today.

Jones did not practice at all this week, and he’s officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.

Jones doesn’t get the accolades, but he’s a key cog of the Ravens defensive line with 53 tackles and four sacks this season. He’s been one of the team’s most consistent defensive performers.

“He’s a guy that just comes to work every day. He busts his rear to be the best he can be every day – he’s done that from the first day,” Harbaugh said.

“When you accumulate that kind of work ethic, day after day after day for four years, you become something. What he’s become is a very, very good football player who’s playing really well. He’s made a career for himself.”

If Jones is unable to suit up, it means more snaps primarily for defensive end DeAngelo Tyson and perhaps the activation of rookie defensive tackle Brandon Williams, who hasn’t played since Week 11.

“DeAngelo has done a really good job,” Harbaugh said. “Terrence Cody has played very well. All those guys have really done a good job.”

WR Smith Questionable

Wide receiver Torrey Smith popped up on the injury report this week with a thigh injury, which limited him in practice throughout the week.

Smith, who has yet to miss a game in his three-year career, is questionable to play.

Smith needs 101 receiving yards on Sunday to surpass Michael Jackson’s Ravens franchise single-season record.

Linebacker Elvis Dumervil continues to nurse his banged-up ankle, which left him limited in practice and questionable entering Sunday’s game.

He’s been listed with it on the injury report since Week 14, yet sat out just one game. Dumervil had three sacks against the Bengals in Week 10.

Center Gino Grakowski was added to the injury report on Thursday with a knee injury, which left him limited then and Friday. He’s also listed as questionable.

If Gradkowski is unable to play, left guard A.Q. Shipley would likely shift to center and Jah Reid would step in at guard for his first start of the year.

Cornerback Asa Jackson (thigh) is doubtful.

Banged Up Bengals

A handful of high-profile Bengals are nursing injuries and a couple have been ruled out.

Starting cornerback Terence Newman (knee) has been ruled out, as well as reserve defensive tackle Deon Still (back).

The Bengals also have injuries to both of their top tight ends, Jermaine Grasham (hamstring) and rookie first-round pick Tyler Eifert (neck). Eifert is doubtful to play and Gresham is questionable.

Inside linebacker Vontaze Burfict suffered a concussion last week and didn’t practice until Friday. He’s questionable to play. The NFL’s leading tackler (157) is a huge part of the middle of Cincinnati’s defense and his absence from the game would help Baltimore’s run game.

Starting offensive tackle Andre Smith (ankle) and some key backups, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (ankle) and linebacker Vincent Rey (ankle), missed some practice during the week and are all probable.
