Who's Playing, Who's Not vs. Eagles

Posted Aug 22, 2015

Expect to see more from the starters. Ravens dealing with injuries on the offensive line.

Quarterback Joe Flacco and the first-team offense only saw one series of work in the preseason opener against the Saints. And that was all they needed, as Flacco led the offense on a 16-play, 80-yard scoring drive.

Expect to see more of Flacco and the starters in Saturday’s preseason matchup with the Eagles.

The Ravens have typically played their veteran starters for about a half during the second preseason game. Last year, Flacco took 30 snaps.

Playing time for the starters also likely depends on circumstances of the game. The Ravens want to get a good look at the unit’s progression under Offensive Coordinator Marc Trestman, so the coaching staff typically enters each week with a general snap count in mind.

The snaps will also be individualized for players, so some of the younger starters cold play into the second half.

Offensive Line Short-Handed

The offensive line is dealing with injuries that may leave the group short-handed against the Eagles.

Starting left guard Kelechi Osemele has missed time with a reported Achilles issue, which could hold him out this week. Osemele told The Sun, “If I had to play a game right now, it’d be tough.”

Osemele did practice Friday, but that session was more of a walk-through session.

The Ravens may also keep right tackle Rick Wagner sidelined after he missed the last two days of practice with a foot injury. Wagner, who had offseason foot surgery, suffered the injury in Wednesday’s practice. He watched the rest of that day from the sidelines, but the Ravens held him out the next two days.

Reserves John Urschel and Robert Myers also recently returned to the field after suffering concussions, so it’s unclear if they will be limited from playing against Philadelphia.

“The guys who are going to play have to play, and that’s the way it works,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll have the guys in there that are healthy.”

Don’t Expect Perriman, Webb

Rookie receiver Breshad Perriman is a long shot to play as he continues to recover from a knee injury he suffered on the first day of training camp. He’s yet to practice since that point, although the Ravens expect him to return at some point during the preseason.

Veteran cornerback Lardarius Webb has also been sidelined the last week after tweaking his hamstring. The injury kept him out of the preseason opener against New Orleans, and he hasn’t practiced since that game.

Webb is an important piece of the secondary, so the Ravens will likely play it safe with him in the preseason.
