Who's Playing, Who's Not vs. Saints

Posted Aug 13, 2015

Rookie WR Breshad Perriman (knee) and DT Timmy Jernigan (foot) could miss the first game.

The Ravens kick off their 2015 games with tonight’s preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints.

Head Coach John Harbaugh said he’ll stick with his previous script for preseason games.

Playing time will be individualized and most of the starters will see about a quarter of action, depending on how the game goes. Some starters, such as wide receiver Kamar Aiken, could see more time.

Much of the news around Ravens training camp has been unfortunately centered on injuries, and a few players may miss the preseason opener.

Perriman Doubtful, But Not Ruled Out

Head Coach John Harbaugh hasn’t ruled out rookie wide receiver Breshad Perriman, but it seems doubtful that he’ll suit up.

The first-round pick has missed 10 straight practices after landing hard on his knee during the first session of training camp.

The recovery has dragged on longer than trainers and Harbaugh originally thought, as the first prognosis was that Perriman would be back in a couple days, max.

Still, don’t be shocked if Perriman suits up, despite not going through a full-contact practice yet.

“I would like to see him get on the field Monday or Tuesday, but I wouldn’t keep him out if he didn’t,” Harbaugh said Saturday. “It’s just a matter of how the injury is.”

Jernigan Dealing With Foot Issue

Ravens fans may have to wait to see whether second-year defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan can step in for departed Haloti Ngata this year.

Jernigan is dealing with a foot issue that kept him out of Monday and Tuesday’s practices, per Harbaugh. Jernigan dealt with nagging injuries last year, including a knee ailment, that held him out of four games.

If Jernigan can’t play, watch for third-round rookie Carl Davis to see a lot of time.

Defensive End Could Be Thin

The Ravens already know they’ll be without defensive end Brent Urban (biceps) for 12-14 weeks.

Now they could start off their preseason slate without another defensive end, DeAngelo Tyson. Tyson has missed the past two practices with an unspecified strain.

“It’s going to be a matter of whether he is ready,” Harbaugh said. “He could be ready by Thursday. It’s nothing major.”

The Ravens will get a good look at other possible young replacements such as Kapron Lewis-Moore.

Urschel, Myers Unlikely to Play

It would be surprising to see guards John Urschel or Robert Myers suit up for the opener.

Both players suffered concussions during Saturday’s practice and have yet to suit up since.

The Ravens will instead give snaps to backup lineman Ryan Jensen and undrafted rookies Nick Easton, Leon Brown and Kaleb Johnson.
