Who's Practicing, Who's Not at Pittsburgh Steelers

Posted Dec 6, 2017

C.J. Mosley missed practice with a neck issue and outside linebacker Za'Darius Smith was sidelined by a shoulder issue.

Mosley Missed Practice With Neck Issue

The Ravens hit the practice field Wednesday ahead of their Week 14 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they dialed back the intensity before the AFC North showdown.

Baltimore practiced without pads or even helmets, giving themselves additional time to recover late in the season.

The most notable absence from the 53-man roster was inside linebacker C.J. Mosley, who is dealing with a neck problem. He’s missed practice time over the last few weeks, but he’s still played every game.

“I feel like it’s Week 14,” Mosley said. “As long as I’m ready by Sunday, that’s what matters.”

Mosley has suffered stingers in each of the last two games and had to briefly come off the field to go through the league’s concussion protocol. He’s passed the protocol both times and returned to action.

Outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith (shoulder) was the only other player not to practice.

Baltimore’s biggest injury challenge, of course, is overcoming the torn Achilles to top cornerback Jimmy Smith. He’ll miss the rest of the year after playing at a Pro Bowl level through the first 13 games, and the Ravens will turn to rookie first-round pick Marlon Humphrey to replace him.

The Ravens also have Maurice Canady and Jaylen Hill as options behind Humphrey, and they promoted cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste to the active roster Tuesday when putting Smith on injured reserve.

Eluemunor Returned to Practice

Rookie offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor returned to practice after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury. He was a limited participant.

Even if Eluemunor is healthy, he may not be active on gameday, but he provides valuable depth along the offensive line.

Veteran receiver Jeremy Maclin (back) was the only other player listed on the injury report as a limited participant. Maclin played through a shoulder injury for a several weeks earlier this season.

Running back Alex Collins wasn’t on the injury report after dealing with migraine headaches following Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions. Collins played the entire game, but did not speak with the media afterwards because of the migraines.

The fact that Collins wasn’t on the injury report means he was a full participant.

Shazier Remains Hospitalized for Pittsburgh

The biggest injury concern for the Steelers is the status of linebacker Ryan Shazier, who was hospitalized Monday night with a back injury. He was carted off the field during Pittsburgh’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals and did not appear to have any movement in his legs.

Several Ravens players expressed concern for Shazier, and the team opened their meeting Wednesday with a prayer for him. Shazier is still in a Cincinnati-area hospital and has reportedly started to re-gain some movement in his legs.

The other players who didn’t practice for Pittsburgh were cornerback Joe Haden (fibula) and linebacker Tyler Matakevich (shoulder). Safety Mike Mitchell (ankle) and tight end Vance McDonald (ankle) were both full participants.
