Who's Practicing, Who's Not vs. Cardinals

Posted Oct 22, 2015

Chris Canty returns to practice. Kendrick Lewis and Terrence Brooks both sidelined. Forsett healthy.

The Ravens’ injury report is jam-packed again.

Baltimore has 11 players on the injury report, 10 of which were either sidelined or limited during Thursday’s session.

Here’s the full breakdown:

Forsett, Yanda Both At Practice

Pro Bowlers Justin Forsett and Marshal Yanda are dealing with ankle injuries, but they were both at practice Thursday. Yanda was a limited participant, and Forsett wasn’t even listed on the injury report meaning he was full-go.

They both missed practice time last week but still played in the game.

Having Forsett at full strength is critical for a backfield that lost backup Lorenzo Taliaferro for the season last week with a foot injury.

Yanda’s status for the upcoming game is likely not in any question as the veteran is one of the toughest players on the team. He’s missed just two games the last seven years.

Lewis, Brooks Miss Practice

Starting safety Kendrick Lewis avoided serious injury when an MRI revealed no ligament damage to his knee, but the starting safety missed his second-straight practice Thursday. Head Coach John Harbaugh described the injury as a “bone bruise,” and said Lewis’ status for Sunday will be “hard to predict.”

“We’ll see where it goes throughout the course of the week,” Harbaugh said.

Lewis was not using crutches in the locker room after practice.

Lewis’ backup, Terrence Brooks, also continues to miss time with a thumb injury. Brooks didn’t play against the 49ers, and Harbaugh did not have an update on Brooks’ status when asked about him Wednesday.

If Lewis and Brooks are both out this week, third-year safety Brynden Trawick could get the first start of his career.

Canty, Webb Both Practice

Veteran defenders Chris Canty (calf) and Lardarius Webb (thigh) returned to practice.

Canty has missed four-straight games with a strained calf, and Webb missed last week’s matchup with the 49ers. They were both limited participants in practice.

Lawrence Guy has played well in Canty’s absence, notching three sacks the last two games.

With Webb sidelined last week, the Ravens turned to recently signed cornerback Shareece Wright to take the bulk of his snaps. The secondary allowed 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to throw for 340 yards without Webb, so the Ravens could certainly use him in the lineup this week against veteran quarterback Carson Palmer.

Steve Smith Sr. Not On Injury Report

Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. played last week’s game with microfractures in his back, and still caught seven passes for 137 yards and a touchdown.

He came out of the game healthy, as he’s not even listed on the injury report this week. Smith jokingly gave credit to his wife, who he also said is his nutritionist.

“She does a good job of doing her research and all that stuff,” he said. “She has me on a lot of things – vitamins and stuff – that I probably should be taking at my age anyway. So, that’s helping.”

With Smith a full participant in practice, he should be able to play against Arizona.

Rookie Waller Returns, Williams Sidelined

Rookie wide receiver Darren Waller returned to practice after missing a game because of a concussion. Waller went down against Cleveland and did not practice at all last week. He was a full participant Thursday.

While Waller returned, fellow rookie Maxx Williams was sidelined with knee and ankle issues. Williams has started three games this year and is currently the No. 2 tight end behind Crockett Gillmore. He has 12 catches for 108 yards.

The other players absent were cornerback Asa Jackson (thigh) and wide receiver Breshad Perriman (knee). Veteran linebackers Daryl Smith and Elvis Dumervil were both given veteran rest days.
