Will Hill Breaks Down His WWE-Style Tackle

Posted Nov 19, 2015

Safety Will Hill body slammed Bryan Walters, but he chose another hit as the best of his career.

The Ravens defensive backs had some fun in the film room earlier this week. Safety Will Hill’s hit on Jaguars wide receiver Bryan Walters was on full display.

“Everybody kept rewinding it,” Hill said. “Everybody kept saying, ‘If you would have hit me like that, we would have been fighting.’”

Here’s how the WWE-style body slam happened.

As the screen was developing, Hill saw a Jaguars offensive lineman coming right at him. Hill faked to the right to get the lineman leaning that direction, then darted left to get around him. The offensive lineman ended up getting in Walters’ way, forcing him right into Hill.

“First of all, I was frustrated when I knew they were going to get the first down,” Hill said.

“It was just instinct. Then, once I had him on my shoulder, it was like, ‘What do I do with him now?’ I didn’t know if I wanted to run and slam him or just throw him. I thought about a penalty, so I threw him down.”

Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees said he didn’t have any qualms with the hit. Hill legally led with his shoulder.

“There’s nothing in the rule book that says you can’t tackle a guy and put him on the ground,” Pees said. “So, I have no coaching points, other than the fact he did a hell of a job. It was a great form tackle.”

At first, Hill said it was the best hit of his career. Then he quickly changed his mind and moved it to second. He said the best was the hit below on Cardinals tight end Jermaine Gresham on Monday Night Football two weeks earlier.

Still, Hill appreciated the style points on his latest hit. He’s a professional wrestling fan at heart.

“It’s funny. My brothers, cousins and friends were watching videos lately of Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, Stone Cold,” Hill said. “I came home and my brothers were like, ‘We were just talking about that!’”

Hill’s favorite wrestlers are The Rock, Ric Flair and Stone Cold.

“They talk the most trash,” Hill said.
