The Ravens join the NFL on specific programs designed to promote volunteerism and give back to the community.
The Baltimore Ravens and the National Football League have teamed up to honor exceptional Maryland volunteers for their devotion to bettering local communities through the annual Community Quarterback Award.
Supported by NFL Charities and the Ravens All Community Team Foundation, the award recognizes individuals who exemplify dedication, leadership and commitment to improving the communities in which they live through volunteerism. Volunteers 13 and over, who provide extraordinary services for nonprofit organizations, are eligible for the 2012 program. Charitable organizations are invited to nominate their remarkable volunteers for recognition, or individuals may nominate themselves.
The selected volunteers will be acknowledged on Nov. 11 at the Ravens-Raiders game at M&T Bank Stadium. Honorees will be awarded game tickets for themselves and a guest, Ravens apparel and autographed memorabilia, a commemorative plaque and a financial grant benefitting their respective nonprofit organization.
The 2011 Community Quarterback Award winners included Angelo Johnson (Art with a Heart, Inc.), Ron Mann (American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region) and Kate Wolfson (Baltimore SquashWise).
The NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle is a league-wide day of service designed to bring awareness and impact to the issue of youth health and fitness. In 2011, the baltimore ravens hosted the first-ever triravens tournament at M&T bank Stadium. approximately 100 youth from Baltimore's Federal Hill Preparatory School joined Ravens players, cheerleaders, official mascot Poe and close to 75 volunteers (from M&T Bank, United Way of Central Maryland and the Lady Ravens Association) to complete various tasks loosely based on the triwizard tournament from the popular children's series Harry Potter. The triravens tournament featured challenges that integrated educational programming and physical activity in conjunction with play 60, the NFL movement for an active generation. Ravens players damien Berry, Chykie Brown, Tandon Doss, Andre Gurode, Bryan Hall, Vonta Leach, Torrey Smith and Cary Williams participated alongside the youth in challenges such as "quidditch," "dragon egg challenge," "broom hockey" and "kickball." At the end of the tournament, the school received a trophy for their participation and the winning team was awarded the complete Harry Potter book series. Each student also received shoes donated by Under Armour, a special triravens tournament backpack filled with healthy snacks donated by United Way of Central Maryland and a Ravens water bottle. After the tournament, each participant was invited to a celebratory lunch held at the stadium.
