The Baltimore Ravens continue to work with high school athletic directors in Maryland to promote academic, athletic, and community excellence among student-athletes through the Ravens Champions Athlete of the Week program. Prior to each Ravens home game, one male and one female student athlete will be selected as the Ravens Champion Athlete of the Week! Each winner will receive two tickets to that week’s game, a VIP pregame field tour, a special Ravens jersey, recognition on the huge RavensVision boards, and their profile showcased on BaltimoreRavens.com. August 15, 2013 – Atlanta Falcons vs. Baltimore Ravens (Pre-season)
Bobby, a senior at Loch Raven, is a three sport athlete for the Raiders, playing football, wrestling and baseball. Bobby is a natural team leader and was named a team captain for the football team this season. As a junior, he started at linebacker for Loch Raven’s football team and helped the Raiders reach a 5-5 record - a mark they had not hit in over seven years. Bobby is also very successful on the wrestling mat, where he was a state finalist and team captain last year.
Female – Sophie Strome – St. Timothy’s School – Senior - Field Hockey
Last season, Sophie was selected as the MVP of the St. Timothy’s field hockey team, and for the last two seasons, the rising senior has been recognized as an All-IAAM Conference performer. Behind Sophie’s stellar goaltending, St. Timothy’s has won the last two IAAM “C” Conference field hockey championships. She maintains an “A” average in the classroom and will be attending Brown University next fall to play for the Bears field hockey team.
August 22, 2013 – Carolina Panthers vs. Baltimore Ravens
A four year varsity starter for the Walkersville soccer team, Zach is a leading force behind the Lions success. Entering his second year as a team captain, he is coming off a season where he received All-Conference and All-Area honors. A senior this year, Zach also excels on the hardwood playing two years of varsity basketball at Walkersville.
Female – Kristy Selby – River Hill H.S. – Junior - Softball
A consummate team player on the diamond, Kristy helped her softball team at River Hill reach their first ever regional championship this past spring. Not only does the River Hill junior excel on the athletics field, she also is a champion in the classroom and in the community. A member of the National Honor Society, she maintains a 4.2 GPA while taking numerous AP classes, and Kristy has helped raise over $15,000 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
September 15, 2013 – Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens
Zach has received numerous accolades for his efforts on the football field while at South Carroll, including recognition as a preseason “Super 22” player for Maryland as a senior and MVAL All-Conference honors as a junior. Zach currently maintains a 3.67 GPA in the classroom and helps tutor other students at his high school.
Female – Alla Stepanov – Kenwood H.S. – Senior – Soccer & Indoor Track
Coming into her senior season as a team captain, Alla will have played in over 40 varsity soccer matches before the end of her high school career. Off the field, Alla is a member of the International Baccalaureate magnet program while maintaining a 3.08 GPA. She has been a recipient of the Academic All-County award twice and coaches youth soccer on the weekends. In the community, Alla has helped organize three charity soccer matches, raise money for a deaf school in Africa, participated in the Dirty Girl Run for breast cancer, and volunteered at her church.
September 22, 2013 – Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens
A captain and three year starter on the varsity football team, Jake also excels on the mound for the Meade baseball team. Recently committing to the Naval Academy to play football, Jake was an All-County selection as junior last season for the Mustangs and named a preseason All-State selection this year. Maintaining a 3.8 GPA while taking Advanced Placement courses, Jake works as hard in the classroom as he does on the field.
Female – Victoria Hopp – Institute of Notre Dame - Sophomore – Field Hockey & Lacrosse
Victoria has driven her team’s offense as a center midfielder on the varsity field hockey team for the past two years at the Institute of Notre Dame. Only a sophomore, Victoria has received multiple accolades in her young career, including nomination to the IAAM All-Star team and the 2012 Coaches Award. Back on the athletic field in the spring, Victoria is a member of the lacrosse team as well. Volunteering with Hildie’s Helpers, she meets after school to collect donations for the poor, make sandwiches for the homeless, and distribute clothing to the underprivileged in East Baltimore.
