Community Impact

“The game will fade one day. Success is one thing, and impact is another. I live to impact people.” – Ray Lewis

The Ray Lewis Family Foundation (RLFF) was established to provide personal and economic assistance to understanding youth in Maryland, Florida and beyond. Through his foundation, Lewis has spent the last 11 years being involved in community activities, and providing donations, grants and scholarships. The RLFF continues to add new initiatives to keep impacting his communities.

  • Ray’s Summer Days (RSD) is an annual weekend summer event that entails a kickoff party, bowling tournament, fitness clinic and more. All proceeds from the weekend benefit the Ray Lewis Family Foundation.

  • The Ray Lewis’ Youth Fitness Clinic takes place during Ray’s Summer Days to promote activity and create awareness in the fight against childhood obesity. Targeting youth ages 6-14, Ray, his celebrity colleagues, foundation staff and volunteers take part in a day of physical activities and education with the children.

  • The Ray Lewis Defensive Football Camp is another annual event that provides incoming freshmen through incoming senior student-athletes the opportunity to participate in football drills focusing on strength, endurance and heart. The camp is led by Ray and his personal trainer, Monte Sanders of Optimum Sanders Fitness. The camp also consists of film study, health awareness and life lessons over a two-day span.

  • Through his foundation, Lewis hosts a Back-to-School event every year, distributing over 200 fully loaded book bags to students throughout the Baltimore City and Baltimore County Public Schools System each August. With the backpacks being filled with pencils, pens, paper, binders, notebooks, pocket folders, crayons, glue sticks, staplers, scissors and more, the initiative aims to have students ready for school.

  • Each Thanksgiving, the RLFF extends a hand to families living under the poverty line. Lewis donates a tractor-trailer load of food and personal care/hygiene items to more than 800 families in Baltimore in time for families to prepare their Thanksgiving meals. A full turkey, bag of potatoes, stuffing and mac and cheese are just a few items that are included in the dinner. All meals are packaged to feed a family of 10.

  • The Coat and Blanket Drive, usually held in January, combined with the Thanksgiving drive in 2012. RLFF provides 300 youth and seniors with warm winter gear. Items include coats, gloves, blankets and hats.

  • The Ray Lewis Holiday Gift Marketplace takes place every December for 150 underserved Baltimore youth. The event allows each child to pick out a gift for themselves, as well a gift for a loved one. The goal of this community event is to implant the value of giving, instead of receiving.

  • Along with the RLFF, Lewis also is active in the Ravens’ community initiatives, including the annual ACT Auction Party benefiting the Ravens All Community Team Foundation and players foundations, the Countdown to Kickoff BBQ, the Ravens’ annual women’s event, A Purple Evening and the Two Rings for O.J. Fundraiser.

  • Throughout Lewis’ time giving back to his communities, he has been honored numerous times. He was named a finalist for the Byron “Whizzer” White Humanitarian Award, given to an NFL player who exemplifies dedication to team, community and country. He also received the “Act of Kindness” Award at the annual JB Awards (named in honor of CBS broadcaster James Brown) banquet in 2006.
