Ravens Place Rookie Wide Receiver Jaleel Scott on Injured Reserve

The Ravens placed rookie wide receiver Jaleel Scott on injured reserve Monday and signed free agent defensive back Robertson Daniel. Head Coach John Harbaugh said Scott suffered a major hamstring injury.

Scott, a fourth-round pick this year from New Mexico St., did not play in Saturday's preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins. He caught just one pass during the preseason and only played three snaps the previous week against the Indianapolis Colts.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Scott has shown flashes of his immense potential in practice, especially in the red zone, but also inconsistency typical of a rookie. He's still very much developing as an all-around receiver after playing three years at Ellsworth Community College and just two seasons at a major college football program. The late bloomer posted 76 receptions for 1,079 yards and nine touchdowns last season at New Mexico State.

The Ravens have four receivers who have clearly locked down a significant role for this season – Michael Crabtree, John Brown, Willie Snead IV and Chris Moore. Beyond that, a deep group of wide receivers is battling to make the 53-man roster, and the Ravens seem unlikely to keep more than six wideouts.

Rookie fifth-round pick Jordan Lasley, Tim White, undrafted rookie Janarion Grant and Breshad Perriman are the top contenders for a possible two roster spots.

The 26-year-old Daniel was waived by Baltimore in May, but he has been with the Ravens twice before. He was signed to the Ravens' practice squad in 2016, was released in 2017, then was re-signed to the practice squad in December.
