Soon after the Eagles fired Head Coach Chip Kelly, speculation started that Philadelphia’s Owner Jeffrey Lurie would try to lure his old assistant coach, John Harbaugh, back to the place where his NFL career began.
The Philadelphia Daily News wrote that Harbaugh was at the “tippy-top of Lurie’s wish list.”
But the Eagles never officially reached out to the Ravens to try to acquire Harbaugh, General Manager Ozzie Newsome said during Thursday’s season-review press conference.
The link to the Eagles stems from the fact that Harbaugh spent 10 seasons in Philadelphia on Andy Reid’s staff before getting the Ravens’ head coaching job in 2008.
But Harbaugh squashed the rumors of him returning to the Eagles soon after they started. When asked about the possibility of going back to Philadelphia on Dec. 30, Harbaugh said, “It’s not even part of the conversation.”
When pressed further on the issue, Harbaugh reiterated, “It won’t be part of the conversation.”
Harbaugh just finished his eighth season in Baltimore, and the Ravens hold an 87-55 record during that time.
