Falcons Sign Quarterback Matt Schaub

Posted Mar 9, 2016

The veteran quarterback is headed to Atlanta after one season with the Ravens.

Matt Schaub’s time in Baltimore has come to a close after one season.

The veteran quarterback signed with the Atlanta Falcons Wednesday just after the start of the new league year.

Schaub, 34, was an unrestricted free agent. He played in two games for Baltimore last year after starter Joe Flacco went down with a season-ending knee injury.

Schaub finished the season completing 52-of-80 passes for 540 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions, including a pair of pick-sixes. The Ravens went 1-1 with Schaub at the helm.

Schaub’s departure does not come as a major surprise because the Ravens still have Ryan Mallett on the roster to back up Flacco next season. Mallett started the final two games of the year and pulled off an upset of the Steelers in Week 16, virtually solidifying his spot as Flacco’s backup.

Entering his 13th season, Schaub will now return to the Falcons where he started his career in 2004.
