Injury Updates On Breshad Perriman, Eugene Monroe

The Ravens provided injury updates on a key pair of offensive players during Tuesday’s pre-draft press conference.

Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said wide receiver Breshad Perriman and left tackle Eugene Monroe are both making strong progress as they continue to recover from injuries that landed them on injured reserve in 2015.

“Right now both of those guys are under our medical care with the trainers,” Newsome said. “We’re getting very good reports on both of them. I know Eugene was in there working out this morning when I was in there, and we’ve had a chance to see Breshad.”

Perriman, last year’s first-round pick, has resumed running again but he is not yet back to full strength.

“He’s running, but to what percentage, I don’t know,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said.

Perriman is still recovering from a knee injury that he suffered on the first day of last year’s training camp. He suffered a setback with that injury in the third week of the season and did not practice again the rest of the year.

The Ravens have said they expect Perriman to get on the field during the offseason program this spring.

Monroe is working his way back from a shoulder issue that required surgery last year. He dealt with the shoulder injury off-and-on last season before ultimately getting placed on injured reserve.

Getting Monroe healthy is a key priority for the Ravens as they want to have a dependable left tackle in the lineup to protect quarterback Joe Flacco’s blindside. Monroe played just six games last year because of a variety of injuries, and he has missed 17 games over the last two years.

The Ravens want to get Monroe and Perriman healthy as quickly as possible so they can get a clearer idea of what to expect from them in 2016.

“Those guys are still under the medical care, and at some point they’ll be released to us and then we’ll start to do our assessment at that point,” Newsome said.
