Justin Tucker Named AFC Special Teams Player Of The Week

Posted Dec 18, 2013

After drilling six field goals Monday night, the second-year kicker received his third player of the week honor.

The list of accolades for Justin Tucker continues to grow.

The second-year kicker was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday after drilling six field goals in Monday’s 18-16 win over the Detroit Lions.

Tucker kicked field goals of 24, 29, 32, 49, 53 and 61 yards, becoming the first player in NFL history to ever hit kicks from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s in the same game. His game-winning 61 yarder was the longest kick in a dome in NFL history.

Before attempting that long field goal, Tucker went up to Head Coach John Harbaugh and asked for a shot to win the game.

“He kind of ordered me almost to kick it, you know?” Harbaugh said.

Tucker put the kick just through the right upright, marking his 33rd successful field goal in a row.

“We have a great operation,” Harbaugh said. “We give ourselves a chance to be really solid with the way we kick the ball. They work hard at that.”

Tucker has now won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors three times this season (Weeks 10, 12), and he was also the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November.
