The Ravens had a pair of first-round picks return to practice Monday morning.
Starting left tackle Ronnie Stanley (undisclosed) and rookie cornerback Marlon Humphrey (soft-tissue injury) both returned to practice after missing at least the last week with injuries. Neither of them played in Saturday's game against the Buffalo Bills.
Stanley was limited in his practice work, and he only participated in individual drills during the portion of practice open to the media. Humphrey didn't appear to be hindered by his injury, and he took part in full-team drills while the media was present.
Both figure to play key roles this season, and the Ravens particularly can't afford to have Stanley sidelined for long. The former No. 6 overall pick will be the starting left tackle on an offensive line that has already dealt with a fair share of injuries, and the Ravens want to ensure he's ready to go for the start of the regular season.
Humphrey isn't slated for a starting job to open the season – veterans Jimmy Smith and Brandon Carr are the top two cornerbacks – but the Ravens still expect him to play an important role. The Ravens want to be cautious and get him rest over the summer so that he doesn't go into his first NFL season hobbled.
Below are some of the other notes from practice:
- Former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was in the building watching practice. He still has a close relationship with Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti and is always a welcomed addition when he wants to visit the Under Armour Performance Center. Lewis caught up with some of his former teammates and spoke to the entire team after practice.
- Quarterback Joe Flacco (back), wide receiver Breshad Perriman (hamstring), quarterback Thad Lewis (undisclosed) and cornerback Brandon Boykin (undisclosed) all didn't practice. Perriman went through an on-field workout before Saturday's game, but he hasn't practiced since the start of the preseason.
- Veteran linebacker Albert McClellan tore his ACL in practice last week and will miss the entire season, Head Coach John Harbaugh announced. The injury occurred late in practice on a non-contact play.
- Running back Terrance West told reporters that he likes where the running game is at this point of the preseason. The offense has had to deal with a host of injuries, but West is encouraged with the progress the unit has made over the last few weeks.
- Rookie outside linebacker Tyus Bowser, who went to the University of Houston, opened his press conference offering prayers and support for those affected by the flooding in Houston.
