Ravens Linebacker Matthew Judon Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Posted Nov 22, 2017

The second-year outside linebacker registered two sacks in a shutout road win over the Green Bay Packers Sunday. It’s the first weekly award of Judon’s young career.

Don’t be surprised if this is just the start of Matthew Judon’s awards collection.

The Ravens’ second-year outside linebacker was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after Baltimore’s 23-0 shutout win in Green Bay.

It’s the first weekly award of his career, and it comes midway through his first year as a starter.

Judon, 25, is the youngest Ravens linebacker to win the award since Terrell Suggs did so in 2005.

Judon registered two sacks and could have been credited with a third Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. His two sacks for losses of 12 and 13 yards came on the same drive.

Judon also forced a fumble for one of the Ravens' five turnovers. He had seven tackles overall, which was the second-most on the team.

“Matthew Judon had a phenomenal game, one of the best I’ve seen,” Suggs said.

After not registering a sack in the first five games, Judon now has five in as many contests. The 6-foot-3, 263-pound Grand Valley State product has shown impressive quickness, agility and an overall better understanding of the game.

He has done it all this season. Judon is one of just four NFL defenders with at least 35 tackles, five sacks, 10 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this season. He joins Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Melvin Ingram and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence.
