Ravens Sign Speedy Wide Receiver John Brown

Posted Mar 13, 2018

The former Cardinals receiver got a one-year deal, according to multiple reports.

The makeover of Baltimore’s receiving corps has started.

The Ravens have reached a reported one-year deal with former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver John Brown. The deal will be finalized upon the completion of a physical.

The contract is worth $5 million with incentives up to $6.5 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

Brown, 27, is a speedy vertical threat who is heading into the fifth season of his NFL career.

The 5-foot-11, 179-pound receiver is coming off a season where he caught 21 passes for 299 yards (both career lows) and three touchdowns. He dealt with toe and quad issues throughout the season and was limited to just 10 games.

However, he is just two years removed from topping 1,000 receiving yards. His best season came in 2015 when he caught 65 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.

Brown ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine. The Pittsburg State product was a third-round pick.

Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine last month that the Ravens wanted to “change the personnel” in the receiver group, and Brown in the first step in that process.

Ryan Grant, Breshad Perriman, Chris Moore, Tim White and Canadian Football League addition DeVier Posey are the Ravens' only other receivers currently under contract. Mike Wallace, the leading receiver of the last two years, and Michael Campanaro are both now unrestricted free agents.
