Six Ravens Placed On Physically Unable To Perform List

Some of the Ravens' key players aren't ready to take the field as training camp opens this week.

The Ravens placed six players on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Saturday, including outside linebackers Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil, wide receivers Steve Smith Sr. and Breshad Perriman, running back Trent Richardson and cornerback Jumal* *Rolle.

It's not a surprise for those players to go on the PUP list. Suggs and Smith are both returning from tearing their Achilles tendons last year, Dumveril had an offseason procedure on his "foot area" and Perriman suffered a knee injury during an offseason practice. Richardson was limited in practice throughout the offseason because of a hamstring issue and Rolle will reportedly miss the entire season with a torn Achilles.

The expectation is for Suggs, Smith, Dumervil and Perriman to return at some point during training camp, and be ready to play Week 1. Suggs is actually scheduled to address the media Wednesday for the first time since suffering the injury last season. The timetable for Richardson's return is a little murkier because there has been no official update on his status.

Players on the PUP list won't be able to practice until they are officially activated. The Ravens had their injured players report to Baltimore Friday, and the rest of the team will return Wednesday. Baltimore's first full-team practice is Thursday.

Some notable players returning from injury who were not placed on the PUP list are quarterback Joe Flacco, tight end Dennis Pitta and cornerbacks Jimmy Smith and Will Davis, indicating they are ready to go for the start of camp.
