Joe Flacco Gives More Detailed Explanation Of His Shoulder Injury

Posted Oct 24, 2016

The Ravens quarterback said he hopes he can get over the pain in his arm soreness during the bye. He also believes he identified when he suffered the injury in the Week 6 loss to the Giants.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco revealed more details on his injured right shoulder following Sunday’s 24-16 loss to the New York Jets.

Flacco said his arm “felt good the whole game,” but he isn’t sure if he’s out of the woods yet.

The Ravens quarterback will be spending his bye week in the training room.

“I’m going to play it day-by-day and go in there and rehab and strengthen it and do all those things,” Flacco said. “I definitely don’t want to mess around with my right shoulder.”

Flacco missed practice Wednesday and Thursday last week, but said on Thursday he started to feel “pretty good” and optimistic that he was going to be able to play.

“I was a little bit nervous early on in the week, just because I wasn’t sure what it was,” Flacco said. “I was having a little bit of trouble with it.”

Flacco said he felt great throwing the ball Friday and Saturday. There didn’t seem to be any problem with his delivery during Sunday’s game, though Flacco took four quarterback hits and was sacked once, so things could have changed over the course of the day.

“I’m sure there will be a little bit [of soreness], but the fact that we have a bye week this week, hopefully I can get over it,” he said.

Flacco was asked whether the arm injury is different from any injury he’s ever had. He said the last time he dealt with anything like it was nine years ago in college at the University of Delaware.

“I never got it actually looked at back then,” Flacco said. “It was just a little bit of a sore arm and stuff like that, basically what this is now. Early in the week, when I wasn’t really sure what it was, I was a little bit nervous just with the fact of what I could and couldn’t do with my arm and not really knowing if I did something to it or not.”

The other thing that made Flacco nervous was that he didn’t know when the injury happened. If he took a big hit and it hurt, that would make sense. But a sore shoulder without a hit to attach it to can be worrisome to a gunslinger.

However, Flacco said he went back and watched the tape, and he believes he found when the injury may have occurred. It was on a deep pass to wide receiver Mike Wallace down the sideline. Flacco had a pair of deep incompletions to Wallace on the Ravens’ final drive.

“I just got hit from my left side and I landed on my arm with it extended out,” Flacco said. “My shoulder just took a little bit of a concussion from the ground and I think it will get better pretty soon here.”
