Joe Flacco Happily Finds Offensive Meetings 'Redundant'

Posted Apr 20, 2016

Joe Flacco begins the year with the same offensive coordinator, Marc Trestman, for the first time since the 2011-2012 season.

Finally, Joe Flacco is bored.

Flacco will begin this year with the same offensive coordinator for the first time since the 2011-2012 season when Cam Cameron was leading the unit.

As meetings with coaches kicked off this week, Flacco actually has a little carryover from his work with Offensive Coordinator Marc Trestman last year.

“I’m already in the meetings kind of complaining that this is all redundant for me,” Flacco said Tuesday. “But that’s a good thing.”

Here are Flacco’s offensive coordinators over the years:

  • 2008-2012: Cam Cameron
  • 2012-2013: Jim Caldwell
  • 2014: Gary Kubiak
  • 2015-2016: Marc Trestman

Flacco has always brushed off the changes at coordinator as no big deal. However, there’s no doubt that consistency can help a quarterback.

Flacco was putting up big numbers in his first year under Trestman before his season-ending knee injury. Flacco was on pace for a career-high 4,465 passing yards, which would have been nearly 500 more yards than his 2014 season. That was without wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. for half the season and the lack of a speed threat outside.

In addition to coaching consistency, Flacco has a bounty of weapons this year with the additions of wide receiver Mike Wallace, tight end Benjamin Watson and last year’s first-round pick Breshad Perriman (missed entire rookie season).

Flacco also had a room of young tight ends such as Crockett Gillmore, Maxx Williams, Nick Boyle and Darren Waller, in addition to young receivers such as Michael Campanaro and Jeremy Butler. Flacco is already in the classroom with those players.

“It’s always good to be in there with the young guys and see them learning and making sure that they’re on the same page with everything,” Flacco said.
