Juan Castillo Leaving Ravens To Join Buffalo Bills

Posted Jan 12, 2017

After four seasons with the Ravens, the veteran NFL coach is reportedly heading to Buffalo.

The NFL coaching carousel has hit the Ravens this week.

Offensive Line Coach Juan Castillo will be leaving Head Coach John Harbaugh’s staff to join the Buffalo Bills. The Bills confirmed Friday afternoon that they have agreed in principle with Castillo.

Castillo will join Head Coach Sean McDermott's staff as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator. The two previously worked together in Philadelphia.

Castillo’s departure also coincides with the addition of Greg Roman to Harbaugh’s staff. Roman will be a senior offensive assistant and tight ends coach.

Castillo, a 35-year coaching veteran, has spent the last four seasons with the Ravens. He was first hired as Baltimore’s run-game coordinator in 2013 before becoming the offensive line coach for the last three years. Castillo had spent 18 seasons as an assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles before coming to Baltimore.

Castillo’s departure comes after the team also reportedly parted ways with Assistant Offensive Line Coach Todd Washington last week. The Ravens will likely look to hire an offensive line coach to replace Castillo, and Richard Angulo will now be the Ravens assistant offensive line coach.

In Castillo’s time with the Ravens, the offensive line had mixed results. Guard Marshal Yanda made the Pro Bowl every season and Kelechi Osemele developed into a player that received the richest contract in NFL history for an offensive guard.

But the running game mostly sputtered the last four years. The Ravens finished eighth in rushing offense in Gary Kubiak’s one season as the offensive coordinator, but they were 28th (2016), 26th (2015) and 30th (2013) in the other three years with Castillo coaching the line.
