Morgan Cox Named As Pro Bowl Long Snapper

Posted Jan 18, 2017

The seven-year veteran is headed to the Pro Bowl for the second time in as many seasons.

Justin Tucker will have another member of “The Wolfpack” joining him at the Pro Bowl.

Long snapper Morgan Cox has been named to the AFC’s roster, the NFL announced Wednesday. This will be the second straight season that Cox has played in the Pro Bowl.

“Playing in the Pro Bowl for a second time is a huge honor for me,” Cox said. “All the hard work that we put into this game is validated when you receive such an honor. I'm proud to represent a great organization like the Ravens, who are among the NFL's best.

“To me, this award is not an individual one. I've been so blessed to be surrounded by such supportive people. Coach [John] Harbaugh and Coach [Jerry] Rosburg have pushed me since I came to the Ravens in 2010. They have put me in a position to be successful. Coach Randy Brown, Justin [Tucker] and Sam [Koch] have helped me hone my craft each day and demand me to be at my best each time I'm on the field.”

Cox was selected as a “need” player by Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs staff will coach the annual all-star game, and long snapper is always selected by the coaching staff rather than getting voted in by the fans and players. Reid also selected Cox last season.

Cox will join Tucker, fullback Kyle Juszczyk and linebacker C.J. Mosley in Orlando next week for the game. Guard Marshal Yanda was also selected to the Pro Bowl, but he had to pull out of the game because of a shoulder injury.

Cox has been a reliable long snapper throughout his career, and Tucker consistently points to him and holder Sam Koch as a big reason for his success. Tucker had one of the best seasons in NFL history, converting 38-of-39 field-goal attempts, all 27 extra points and 10 field goals of at least 50 yards.

“Morgan Cox is the best long snapper in football,” Tucker said when he was selected to the Pro Bowl.

Heading to a second Pro Bowl comes just a couple of months before Cox’s wife, Lauren, is due to give birth to the couple’s first child.

“My wife, Lauren, is my rock, and without her I'd be nothing,” Cox said. “There is no greater pride in a man than providing for his family. This year, as Lauren and I expect our firstborn son in March, I am more motivated than ever to be the best I can be and set an example for him. God has blessed me far beyond what I deserve. I continue to lean on my Savior Jesus Christ for daily direction.”

NOTE: We will have a coverage team in Orlando next week reporting from the Pro Bowl providing fans inside access across our digital platforms to all of the week’s events.
