Reports: Patriots Sign Lawrence Guy To 4-Year Deal

Posted Mar 11, 2017

New England will pay the hard-nosed defensive lineman up to $20 million, per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. Guy was an under-the-radar 10-game starter for the Ravens last season.

The Patriots are signing defensive lineman Lawrence Guy to a four-year deal, reports NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. The deal is reportedly worth up to $20 million.

If confirmed, it would mark the fourth Ravens free agent to depart in the first three days of free agency, following fullback Kyle Juszczyk (San Francisco 49ers), right tackle Rick Wagner (Detroit Lions) and guard Vlad Ducasse (Buffalo Bills).

The more unrestricted free agents that leave Baltimore, the better the Ravens' chances of getting compensatory picks for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Guy, 26, has been a versatile and solid defensive lineman for the Ravens over the past three years. He's flown under the radar, but started 10 games last season (played about half the snaps) and six the year before.

The Ravens picked up Guy after he was released by the San Diego Chargers midway through the 2014 season. He quickly became a dependable rotational piece along the defensive line, then grew into more. Guy registered a career-high 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2015.

Baltimore has youth at defensive end with fourth-year Brent Urban and rising sophomore Bronson Kaufusi.

Urban, a fourth-round pick in 2014, was able to finally stay healthy last year and registered 10 tackles, two sacks and two passes defensed in 16 games played. Kaufusi broke his ankle in training camp and missed the entire season, but the Ravens have high hopes for last year's third-round pick.

The Ravens could still add to their defensive line via free agency or the draft.
