Terrell Suggs Could Be Back For Training Camp

Posted Jun 16, 2016

The Ravens’ veteran outside linebacker has been working hard at the Under Armour Performance Center and looks good, according to Head Coach John Harbaugh. He has a ‘real chance to be ready to go’ at the start of camp and regular season.

Veteran outside linebacker Terrell Suggs is expected to be back for training camp, but Head Coach John Harbaugh isn’t making any guarantee.

Suggs has been out since tearing his Achilles in Week 1 of last season, on Sept. 13 in Denver.

Suggs has stayed out of the media spotlight since then. He didn’t participate in minicamp and did not hold a press conference, but did release a statement.

“I know there are many questions about where I am with my injury,” Suggs said. “While I respect the media's right to ask, I hope everyone can respect that I am 100-percent focused on rehabbing and preparing to be the best player I can be at the start of our season. I will address all of those questions during training camp.”

Just because he hasn’t been in the media eye doesn’t mean Suggs hasn’t been around, however. Harbaugh said Suggs has been at the Under Armour Performance Center for quite a few weeks, doing rehab and conditioning. Suggs has been participating in meetings this week.

“To my eye, he’s doing a really good job,” Harbaugh said. “He’s working really hard. He’s here consistently on a regular basis.”

The Ravens may opt to ease Suggs back into action given the nature of the injury and the fact that he’s a 33-year-old veteran who has proven what he can do on the field. His offseason will be tailored to what he individually needs to get his body ready for Week 1.

So don’t expect to see much, or any, of Suggs in preseason action. All sights are set on Sept. 11 against the Buffalo Bills.

With that said, about 10-and-a-half months will have passed between the date of the injury and start of training camp, so Suggs will have had time to recover.

When Suggs tore his Achilles before the 2012 season, he returned to play in a regular-season game a miraculous five months and six days later.

“It was early September last year, so from a time frame standpoint, he’s got a real chance to be ready to go,” Harbaugh said.

A reporter asked whether that meant for training camp or the regular season.

“I think both, but it just depends,” Harbaugh said. “You can’t guarantee anything. I think see what the doctors say, but he’s looking good.”
