Baltimore Ravens Training Camp Transcripts 08/04

BALTIMORE RAVENS TRAINING CAMP TRANSCRIPTS

Head Coach John Harbaugh

On today being military appreciation day: "Just want to thank all the folks from the U.S. Military who were here, the family [of] J.T. Thompson, just all of our good friends in the military for being here. Thank you for what you do. Freedom is not free and we can't do what we do without you. Thank you very much."

On tonight's practice at M&T Bank Stadium: "I thought it was a great night. I thought everyone had a lot of fun. The energy was unbelievable. Driving up here about a half hour before the gates opened, it was eight deep around the stadium to get in, just a great night. And then when Ray [Lewis] came out and then when Ed [Reed] came out, and I think a lot of the fans here tonight probably saw those guys in person for real for the first time ever; they went crazy. I had goose bumps. It was just one of those really rare moments. The idea of practicing in here in front of this crowd is really helpful. I think we get our guys in a situation that is more like a game, and they have to handle themselves, make catches, make throws, whatever, think under pressure; it's very helpful."

On the kicking situation tonight: "Right, we got a lot of reps for the kickers in game-like situations, which is really unusual and hard to do, and they both came through. Both of those guys kicked about as well as you could kick."

On TE Ed Dickson getting poked in the eye: "He got poked in the eye. He just couldn't get it back where he could really get going, but he's going to be fine."

On LB Darryl Blackstock's injury: "Yeah, he had a little muscle issue, a little groin thing. I don't think it's serious, but I'm not sure what happened."

On QB Joe Flacco's timing with the receivers: "Yeah, you know it's funny. We look really, really sharp the last couple of days in practice. [We] came out here today and looked sharp, but I think because of the setting, it wasn't quite there like it was the last two days, a couple of drops, things like that. But, Joe is really on the money, so that's good to see."

On how QB Tyrod Taylor looked today: "I thought Tyrod played really well. Did you think? Tyrod looked good, made a lot of plays. Tyrod is a very accurate passer. He was on time, played well."

On how DT Haloti Ngata looked tonight: "Well, Haloti, he was in individual period today, so he didn't have the pads on, so he couldn't fully participate in this practice. But he will be [at] Monday's practice to whatever extent the hamstring allows, but he's pretty close."

On if K Billy Cundiff wanted to attempt the 65-yard kick: "You know, Billy is a veteran guy. It's amazing the competitiveness in these guys. 'Tuck' [Justin Tucker] makes the 63-yarder, so Billy's like 'Put it back to 65.' (laughter) It was a great kick; it was just a little bit short. Both of those kicks were pretty amazing."

On facing Pittsburgh twice in three weeks this season: "You know I haven't really thought too much about it other than it's going to be a challenge playing Pittsburgh twice in three weeks. Oh that's right, San Diego is in between, right? But that's way down the road and we'll cross that bridge when we get there."
