History
The Ravens and Colts have only matched up two times in the preseason prior to Thursday's game. In their last contest in 2018, the Ravens beat the Colts, 20-19, when then-rookie Lamar Jackson completed seven of 15 passes for 49 yards and one touchdown. Chris Moore caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jackson.
Key Storylines
Who in the secondary will raise their stock?
The Ravens' secondary is filled with premier talent that can cover all ends of the field. With veterans Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton, Jaire Alexander, and Nate Wiggins most likely sitting out, young players and newcomers will get quality reps.
Rookie safety Malaki Starks will benefit from getting his feet wet. The first-round pick has shown great flashes in practice as he gets accustomed to the Ravens' defensive scheme, and Thursday will provide ample opportunity to take the next step in his acclimation.
Second-year safeties Sanoussi Kane and Beau Brade will battle for the No. 3 role behind Hamilton and Starks. Jalyn Armour-Davis, T.J. Tampa, rookie Bilhal Kone and others will share duties at cornerback as they compete for more playing time and a roster spot.
Who in the outside linebacker rotation will step up?
David Ojabo, Mike Green, and Adissa Issac are among the outside linebackers competing for playing time. Green has already stood out as a rookie at practice, displaying his athleticism and ability to disrupt plays. The preseason game could give Ojabo and Isaac, who have both dealt with injuries, a chance to further their case for more snaps. Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh are not expected to play much at all, so there will be plenty of opportunities.
How will Charlie Kolar look in a larger role?
With tight end Isaiah Likely expected to miss multiple weeks with a foot injury, the Ravens will need someone to step up at the position in terms of production. Since Likely's injury, Kolar has looked like a promising pass-catching option for the team. He had several big-time catches in Tuesday's joint practice, one of which was for more than 50 yards. Kolar may receive some additional targets to gauge how he fares as a main option alongside Mark Andrews.
Players to Watch
K Tyler Loop
The lone kicker on the roster, Loop will take on all the kicking duties for the Ravens Thursday. Having hit on field goals over 60 yards multiple times during practice, the sixth-round pick enters the season with high expectations. This game will be important as Loop looks to continue his hot start at M&T Bank Stadium.
RB Keaton Mitchell
Mitchell played only five regular-season games last season upon returning from a devastating knee injury suffered in 2023. However, he looks to have regained the top-end speed that took the league by storm as an undrafted rookie. Offering a change-of-pace option to Derrick Henry, Mitchell can use the preseason to reinstate that he's back and better than ever.
CB T.J. Tampa
Tampa was considered a steal in the fourth round of the 2024 Draft, but injuries held him to only seven games as a rookie. He has displayed good man coverage at practice, breaking up multiple passes and hauling in a few interceptions. Seeming to be back healthy, Tampa comes into the preseason with added motivation to make a name for himself.
