Rookies Assigned Jersey Numbers

The rookies have arrived in Baltimore for the start of this weekend's minicamp.

As part of the transition to the NFL, the rookies were also assigned their jersey numbers. The numbers are subject to change after minicamp and during the offseason, as the 90-man roster is fluid at this time of the year, but these are the current roster assignments.

Some players get a choice on their numbers, but they have to pick based on what's already taken from the veterans.

A few of the notable number assignments are for the team's first three draft picks.

First-round pick Matt Elam will wear No. 31, which was worn by starting safety Bernard Pollard last season. Elam brings a similar hard-hitting style to the field, and he'll do so wearing the number donned by his predecessor.

Second-round pick Arthur Brown will wear Dannell Ellerbe's old No. 59. Ellerbe signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent this offseason, and Brown will compete for one of the starting inside linebacker spots left open by him and Ray Lewis.

Third-round pick Brandon Williams gets No. 98. The defensive tackle will wear Tony Siragusa's old number, which was technically assigned last year to Ryan McBean, who spent the season on injured reserve.

Here's an overview of the number assignments for all 10 of the team's 2013 draft picks:

First Round: S Matt Elam, No. 31
Second Round: LB Arthur Brown, No. 59
Third Round: DT Brandon Williams, No. 98
Fourth Round:  OLB John Simon, No. 47
Fourth Round: FB Kyle Juszczyk, No. 40
Fifth Round: G/T Rick Wagner, No. 71
Sixth Round: DE Kapron Lewis-Moore, No. 67
Sixth Round: C Ryan Jensen, No. 77
Seventh Round: WR Aaron Mellette, No. 80
Seventh Round: CB Marc Anthony, No. 36

As expected, Nos. 52 and 20 went unassigned.

Also note, that newly signed linebacker Rolando McClain was given No. 51.
