Todd Heap and Brendon Ayanbadejo Lead 2008 'What Moves U' Kickoff

The Baltimore Ravens, Dairy Management, Inc. and American Heart Association Kick Off 2008 *What Moves U *Program with 1,000 Middle School Students

The Baltimore Ravens, Dairy Management, Inc. and the American Heart Association (AHA) will kick off a six-week program this Tuesday (10/14) as part of the national NFL What Moves U campaign designed to promote physical fitness and healthy living among an increasingly inactive generation of children.

In the fall of 2006, the NFL and the AHA launched What Moves U, a national curriculum-based program to promote physical fitness and good health to America's youth. The What Moves U program is the leading initiative under the Play 60 umbrella that helps kids get at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day.

To launch the 2008 What Moves U campaign, the Ravens will expand the existing program from two pilot schools to four and continue to strive for measurable results. In addition to the distribution of Healthy Snack Packs and What Moves U fitness calendars, the Ravens will challenge the students to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day through an incentive-based system. During the six-week program, 6th grade students will record their physical activity on their at-home calendars, as well as the in-classroom tracking material, and will be awarded prizes such as WMU player cards, yoga mats, stop watches, pedometers, jump ropes and water bottles. Grand prize winners from each school will take a tour of M&T Bank Stadium, eat lunch with Ravens players in the locker room and receive additional gifts.

The Ravens will host two kickoff events this Tuesday (10/14) with 6th graders at Severna Park Middle School in Severna Park, Md. at 9:30 a.m. and at Crossroads Middle School in Baltimore, Md. at 2:00 p.m. Kickoff assemblies were held on Tuesday (10/7) at Northwest Middle School (Taneytown, Md.) and Lime Kiln Middle School (Fulton, Md.).

LB Brendon Ayanbadejo and TE Todd Heap will join representatives from the AHA, fitness coach Monte Sanders, Ravens cheerleaders and official mascot Poe, in launching this year's program. The group will speak about the importance of physical activity in their everyday lives. Representatives from Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, the local affiliate of Dairy Management, Inc. will also be on hand to discuss nutrition and distribute the Healthy Snack Packs.
