10 Players Voluntary Workouts Could Benefit Most
Second-year players and new acquisitions can get a lot from the weight room and classroom.

Flacco is the commander of the offense and there's a new playbook to learn. This is his first chance to have extensive talks with new Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak and really start digging into his playbook. Flacco has been present for the first two days of workouts. He can't work with coaches on the field, but his classroom study may be more important.

Brown is expected to win a starting inside linebacker job, according to Head Coach John Harbaugh. He has some work to do in the classroom though after serving as a nickel linebacker last year. Part of the reason for that limited role was he was trying to learn the system.

Zuttah is going to be a critical piece of the offensive line next year as the likely starting center. The center has to make a lot of calls on the field, so Zuttah needs to understand Kubiak's system through and through. Of all the offensive positions, offensive line is one where the Ravens haven't brought in a former Kubiak player to help.

Juszczyk will get a much heavier load next season after seeing hardly any offensive action as a rookie. He will fit into Kubiak's flex position for H-backs and tight ends. It's more like the role Juszczyk played in college at Harvard, but will still take some learning. Juszczyk can also improve his blocking technique as he will step in for departed Vonta Leach.

If the Ravens don't draft a tackle high, Wagner could very well be the starting right tackle. He was solid as a rookie, but needs more time to hone his skills with teacher and Offensive Line Coach Juan Castillo in the classroom. Wagner could stand to bulk up some more and fill out his 6-foot-6, 308-pound frame.

Lewis-Moore spent all of his rookie season on injured reserve, making this his first chance to make an impact. He will be part of a rotation that steps in for the departed Arthur Jones, and Lewis-Moore has ground to make up after his ACL injury during his senior year of college.

If there's one player that needs to get on the same page with Flacco, it's Smith, Sr. He hasn't had a chance to catch balls from Flacco yet and will be a major part of the Ravens offense. Smith is a tireless worker and the veteran has been present for the first two days of workouts.

Upshaw has battled weight and conditioning issues during the previous two years heading into training camp and would like to get started on the right foot. He was working out at the Under Armour Performance Center even before the voluntary program began, showing that he's committed to being in top shape. Upshaw had half as many tackles in 2013 as he did in 2012.

With legal matters hanging over his head, the weight room can be a place of solace for Rice. He can reacclimatize with his teammates. Rice also needs to get a feel for Kubiak's outside zone running scheme, in which he'll have to make quick decisions. He is also in the process of shedding and keeping off unwanted bulk from last year.

Signed this offseason, Stewart could end up being the Ravens' starting free safety. If he's going to move into that role, he's got to stay healthy. A good way to change habits, add routines or just get in shape for the rest of the summer and training camp is to get an early start. The Ravens training staff can work closely with Stewart to make sure he's building his body the right way.
