Biography

TRAVELLE WHARTON is in his eighth season coaching NFL offensive linemen and second as Baltimore's assistant offensive line coach. Before joining Baltimore, Wharton coached offensive linemen for the Washington Commanders (2020-23) and Carolina Panthers (2018-19) following his NFL playing career as an offensive lineman for the Carolina Panthers (2004-11, 2013) and Cincinnati Bengals (2012). He began his coaching career as offensive quality control coach at his alma mater, South Carolina, in 2015, before being elevated to the Gamecocks offensive line coach midway through that season.

2024: (with Baltimore) 2024: Helped C Tyler Linderbaum and T Ronnie Stanley earn their second-career Pro Bowl nods, while T Roger Rosengarten was named to PFWA's All-Rookie team...Ravens rushed for 3,189 yards (187.6 ypg), the league's second-most rushing yards in a single season (SB Era), trailing only Baltimore's 3,296 yards in 2019…The Ravens' 5.76 yards per rush average is the best mark in NFL single-season history (SB Era)...Baltimore rushed for at least 150 yards in 13 games, tying its own mark in 2019, San Francisco in 1948 and Miami in 1972 for the most such occurrences in a season...Additionally, QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry combined for 2,836 rushing yards, marking the most by a QB-RB duo in NFL single-season history.

2020-23: (with Washington) 2023: The Commanders rushing attack posted the league's seventh-most yards per rush (4.4) and ranked fourth in first downs per rush (27.6%)...The unit also posted the league's fifth-best red zone efficiency mark (63.3%)...RB Brian Robinson Jr. became the fifth player in Washington's history to record 5 rushing and 5 receiving TDs in a single season. 2022: Washington was the league's 12th-most productive rushing unit (126.1 ypg). 2021: Washington produced its first 1,000-yard rusher since 2018 (RB Antonio Gibson – 1,037)...The run game ranked sixth in the NFC in both rushing yards (2,061) and rushing ypg (121.2). 2020: Helped Washington claim its first NFC East title since 2015 as a part of Ron Rivera's staff, whom he also coached with for the previous three seasons in Carolina...His unit helped rookie RB Antonio Gibson post 11 rushing TDs, the second most by a rookie in franchise history (Alfred Morris 13 in 2012).

2017-19: (with Carolina) 2019: Panthers ground game averaged 4.7 yards per rush (sixth in NFL) and posted 20 TDs (fourth in NFL)...Wharton's unit blocked for RB Christian McCaffrey, who led the league in scrimmage touches (403) and yards (2,392), while tying for most scrimmage TDs (19). 2018: Wharton's unit helped the offense rank No. 1 in yards per rush (5.1) and No. 4 in rush yards per game (133.5)...The O-line paved the way for McCaffrey to post his first 1,000-rushing yard season (1,098) and 7 TDs. 2017: Assisted with offseason workouts and training camp as part of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.

2015: (with South Carolina) Began his coaching career in offensive quality control at his alma mater before being elevated to offensive line coach midway through the season.

NFL PLAYER: (2004-13) Selected in the third round (94th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers and played 10 seasons in the league – nine with the Panthers (2004-11, 2013) and one with the Bengals (2012)...Started 111 of the 115 regular season games he played in with Carolina, both of which still mark the third-highest totals by an offensive lineman in franchise history...Was a starter for each of the Top 3 rushing seasons in Panthers history (2008-09, 2011)...Helped the unit average 5.41 yards per carry in 2011, a mark that led the NFL and set a franchise record.

COLLEGE: Was a four-year letter-winning offensive lineman (2000-03) and appeared in 47 games (45 starts) at LT for South Carolina...Didn't allow a single sack after the second game of his freshman season (2000), a 45-contest streak...Earned second-team All-SEC honors and was named team captain his senior year...Also earned freshman All-America honors and a spot on the All-SEC freshman team.

PERSONAL: The Fountain Inn, SC, native, attended Hillcrest (Simpsonville, SC) HS, earning All-Area and All-State recognition as a senior...Participant of the Shrine Bowl following his senior year...Recognized by the State of South Carolina for being a role model and hero to the Greenville community and for his philanthropy among the youth of South Carolina in 2008...Hosted a free, family-run football camp for more than 500 kids each summer near Fountain Inn...Inducted into the Greenville County Schools Hall of Fame in 2017...Participated in the NFL's third-annual Personal Finance Bootcamp, to reinforce his financial fundamentals and model to his four children that learning never ends...He and his wife, Kashema, have three daughters, Gabrielle, Kaelyn and Kelsey, and a son, T.J.
