Ravens rookie cornerback Bilhal Kone suffered a season-ending knee injury in his first NFL game.
Head Coach John Harbaugh announced Kone has a torn ligament in his knee.
Kone made a good play battling a Colts wide receiver near the end zone in the first quarter when he went down. Ravens doctors immediately called the cart, and he was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The sixth-round Western Michigan product has had a strong first offseason, though he also missed some time in training camp with a shoulder injury. A player who has battled through many adversities in his life, Kone will have another to overcome.
Harbaugh came out onto the field and knelt beside Kone, as everyone at M&T Bank Stadium could immediately tell it was a serious injury.
"[It was] very emotional. He playing well, too. Even in that play, he made a heck of a play," Harbaugh said. "And then even seeing him in the locker room just now was really hard, very hard. But like I told him, 'The sun will come up tomorrow. If the sun doesn't come up tomorrow, we will have much bigger problems. So, the sun will come up tomorrow, you'll get this taken care of. You'll be rehabbing. You're part of our team, and you'll be back. So, it's just not on the time that you hope for.' So, I think he'll see that in due time."
The Ravens have considerable cornerback depth. Behind leaders Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, Jaire Alexander, and Chidobe Awuzie is Jalyn Armour-Davis, T.J. Tampa, sixth-round rookie Robert Longerbeam, and more.
Kone is close with Ravens first-round pick Malaki Starks. The two even trained together before being drafted by the Ravens.
"You never want to see it," Starks said. "Football is 100% rate of injury, and you never know when it's going to happen. He's been working really hard to be in his position. His story is amazing and he's going to bounce back and be stronger than ever, but I know it's going to take some time, and we just have to be there for him the best way that we can."
