History
The Ravens and Cowboys have only faced each other once in the preseason prior to Saturday's matchup. Their second scheduled preseason game in 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic. In their last preseason contest in 2014, the Ravens defeated the Cowboys, 37-30. Joe Flacco completed nine of 17 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown. Torrey Smith caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Flacco. Deonte Thompson also returned a kickoff 108 yards for a score.
Key Storylines
How will the Ravens' passing game bounce back?
Coming off the Ravens' first preseason game in which the team only recorded 59 passing yards, the team will expect to have a more productive outing through the air. Cooper Rush started for Baltimore and threw for just 16 yards, while Devin Leary passed for 43. Each quarterback was intercepted once. Both players were better in practice this week and are looking to carry that into stronger showings in the game
Who will emerge in the secondary following rookie injuries?
The Ravens' secondary depth has taken substantial blows ahead of Saturday's game. Rookie cornerbacks Bilhal Kone and Robert Longerbeam are out for the remainder of the season with knee injuries, leaving an opportunity for under-the-radar players to impress. Cornerbacks Keyon Martin, Marquise Robinson, and recently acquired M.J. Devonshire Jr. could see more snaps versus the Cowboys.
Will the Ravens' young edge rushers continue their hot start?
A handful of outside linebackers got off to a fast start against the Colts. David Ojabo had a massive hit on Anthony Richardson Sr. when he came unblocked off the edge. Adisa Isaac also recorded a sack in the backfield with the help of Mike Green, who dazzled in his debut. With veteran edge rushers such as Odafe Oweh, Tavius Robinson, and Kyle Van Noy not slated to play in Saturday's game, expect these young edge rushers to continue to make a name for themselves against the Cowboys.
Players to Watch
QB Cooper Rush
Returning to Dallas after playing seven seasons for the Cowboys, Rush will come into the game with some added motivation. Although Rush will have the opportunity to thrive in front of his former team, the veteran signal-caller is ultimately focused on assuring the Ravens that he's more than capable of backing up Lamar Jackson.
"I've been really trying to show [my] current team I'm doing well," Rush said. "Things like that are the main focus. I'm getting ready to play. Those games do matter. Those preseason games do help guys in my position. Those reps do count. You learn from them, so when you have to go out there in the real thing, it works."
DB Reuben Lowery
Lowery has been a ball-hawk throughout training camp, recording multiple pass deflections due to being in the right spots at the right time. With the ability to play multiple secondary positions, the undrafted rookie is versatile and should see a heavy dose of snaps as he looks to crack the 53-man roster.
"He's played every position. He played all three corner spots, [and] he's played both safety positions, so can't wait to see him in Dallas and see how he plays down there," Head Coach John Harbaugh said.
ILB Jay Higgins IV
Higgins had a solid outing against the Colts, notching three tackles, two pass deflections, and a late interception in the 4th quarter to help secure the victory.
The undrafted rookie is looking to grab a spot on the roster behind Roquan Smith, Trenton Simpson, Jake Hummel, and Teddye Buchanan.
