Biography
GEORGE GODSEY (pronounced GOD-see) is in his 15th NFL season and his fourth as the Ravens' tight ends coach. He leads one of the top tight ends groups in the NFL. Godsey has been an NFL offensive coordinator for two NFL teams – the Miami Dolphins (2021), where he was a co-offensive coordinator, and the Houston Texans (2015-16). He has also held offensive positions with the Dolphins (2019-20), Detroit Lions (2017-18), Texans (2014) and New England Patriots (2011-13). Prior to joining the NFL ranks, Godsey began his coaching career with the University of Central Florida (2004-10).
- In 2024, Godsey's unit led all NFL TEs rooms in receiving TDs (18) for the second-straight season, while also ranking Top 10 in yards per catch (12.1, third), receiving yards (1,281, fourth), receiving first downs (69, fourth) and receptions (106, ninth).
- The Ravens' tight ends led the NFL in receiving TDs (12) in 2023, contributing to the fourth-best scoring offense (28.4 ppg) and the sixth-ranked offense in total yards (370.4 ypg).
- In his first year in Baltimore (2022), Godsey's unit ranked No. 2 in the NFL in receiving yards (1,418), receptions (127) and first downs (76).

2022-24: (with Baltimore) 2024: Godsey's group led all NFL TEs rooms in receiving TDs (18) for the second-straight season, while also ranking Top 10 in yards per reception (12.1, third), receiving yards (1,281, fourth), receiving first downs (69, fourth) and receptions (106, ninth)…TE Mark Andrews recorded 55 receptions for 673 yards and a career-high 11 TDs (most among NFL tight ends)…Additionally, Andrews notched a receiving TD in a franchise-record six games…TE Isaiah Likely continued to ascend in under Godsey's guidance, setting career highs in receptions (42), receiving yards (477) and TDs (6). 2023: Coached Andrews and Likely to be the league's only single-team pair of TEs with at least 5 TD grabs each, while also becoming the first TE duo in Ravens history to accomplish the feat...Led by Andrews and Likely, Baltimore's tight end room posted a league-high 12 receiving TDs, contributing to the fourth-best scoring offense (28.4 ppg) and the sixth-ranked offense in total yards (370.4 ypg). 2022: Developed a tight ends unit that posted the second-most receiving yards (1,418), receptions (127) and first downs (76) in the league...Andrews earned his third-career Pro Bowl nod, recording 73 receptions (tied for third most among NFL TEs), 847 yards (third most among NFL TEs) and 5 TDs (tied for seventh most among NFL TEs)...Likely registered 3 TD (tied for most among NFL rookie TEs) while producing the most receptions (36), most TDs (3 - tied with Andrews) and second-most receiving yards (373) by a rookie TE in Ravens history.
2019-21: (with Miami) 2021: Promoted to co-offensive coordinator/tight ends…Guided a tight ends unit that finished with a league-high 122 catches, while its 1,271 receiving yards were the league's fourth most…TE Mike Gesicki enjoyed a career year, producing single-season bests in receptions (73) and receiving yards (780). 2020: Miami's tight ends combined to post 91 receptions for 1,061 yards and tied the team's single-season tight end mark with 11 receiving TDs…Gesicki led the way with 53 receptions for 703 yards (13.3 avg) and 6 TDs…His 703 yards ranked fourth among TEs in the NFL. 2019: Gesicki caught 5 TDs in the final six games of the season, tying for the second most in the NFL over that span…His 51 receptions and 570 receiving yards were both fifth among AFC tight ends.
2017-18: (with Detroit) Godsey was a defensive assistant responsible for special projects in 2017 and was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2018. 2018: Worked with QB Matthew Stafford, who completed 66.1% (367-of-555) of his passes for 3,777 yards and 21 TDs despite two of his top receivers – Marvin Jones Jr. and Golden Tate – combining to play in just 16 games for Detroit. 2017: Served as a defensive assistant responsible for special projects, helping the Lions finish third in the NFL in total takeaways (32), fourth in INTs (19) and second in FRs (13).
2014-16: (with Houston) Served as quarterbacks coach in 2014 before earning a promotion to offensive coordinator in 2015…Houston posted three consecutive winning seasons during his tenure and won the AFC South in both seasons (2015-16) he was the offensive coordinator. 2016: Houston won the AFC South and an AFC Wild Card game against Oakland in QB Brock Osweiler's first full season as an NFL starter…Houston finished with the league's eighth-best rushing attack (116.2 ypg). 2015: The Texans became the first NFL team since 1950 to make the playoffs with four different starting QBs winning at least one regular season game…WR DeAndre Hopkins finished third in the NFL with 1,521 receiving yards, while his 11 receiving TDs tied for seventh. 2014: Led a unit that featured QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who started 12 games and posted then-single-season career highs in passer rating (95.3) and completion percentage (63.1).
2011-13: (with New England) Coached tight ends from 2012-13, after spending 2011 as an offensive assistant. 2013: Despite playing just seven games in 2013 due to injury, TE Rob Gronkowski caught 39 passes for 592 yards (15.2 avg) and 4 TDs…His 15.2 yards per catch average was third among NFL tight ends that season. 2012: Under Godsey's tutelage, Gronkowski posted 55 receptions for 790 yards and 11 TDs…His 11 TD grabs were the most among tight ends. 2011: Joined the NFL ranks as an offensive assistant, helping New England win the AFC and advance to Super Bowl XLVI…The Pats' offense ranked among the league's best in several categories, including yards per game (428.0 – second), points per game (32.1 – third) and red zone TD efficiency (65.3% – second).
2004-10: (with Central Florida) Began his coaching career as a graduate assistant (2004) before being promoted to quarterbacks coach (2005-08) and then moving to running backs coach in 2009…Central Florida played in three bowl games and won two conference titles during Godsey's tenure.
COLLEGE: Was a standout QB at Georgia Tech from 1998-2001, finishing as the school's all-time record holder in completion percentage (63.3) and passer rating (143.6).
PERSONAL: Played one season (2003) in the Arena Football League for the Tampa Bay Storm, which won ArenaBowl XVII…A Tampa, FL, native, Godsey comes from a strong football family…His older brother, Greg, played at Air Force, and his younger brother, Gary, played at Notre Dame.
