RON MEDLIN was named Ravens head certified athletic trainer following the retirement of Mark Smith. Medlin served 17 years as the Atlanta Falcons head athletic trainer (1994-2010) and joined the Ravens in 2011. Previously, he had worked with Smith and former Ravens training boss Bill Tessendorf with the Cleveland Browns from 1989-94. Medlin is currently assisted by certified athletic trainers Kevin Domboski, Michael Blankenship and Collin Francis.
2011-18: (with Baltimore): Served as assistant athletic trainer...Helped re-design the Ravens' medical operations system, which improved efficiency and productivity...Provided treatment, prevention and rehabilitation to players as the top assistant to Mark Smith. 2012: Helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII.
1994-2010: (with Atlanta): Headed the athletic trainers' office while working as the main liaison with the team's doctors and coaching staff...Ron's style was to be aggressive and creative in bringing players back to good health...Developed the Falcons' protocols for all activities related to the training room. 1998: Helped guide the Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance.
1989-94: (with Cleveland): Medlin first worked with what would become the Ravens' franchise when he was a trainer with Mark Smith and Bill Tessendorf...Created a new system to maintain medical records. 1989: Browns staff was selected as the NFL's Athletic Training Staff of the Year by PFATS.
1987-89: (with Memphis State): Served his graduate school alma mater as the head football athletic trainer, revising the school's medical procedures while directing the department.
1984-87: (with Memphis State): Began career as an assistant trainer for his graduate school alma mater, Memphis State.
1983: (Furman University): Served as a GA training assistant. 1983-88: Was as a training camp intern for the Atlanta Falcons.
COLLEGE/PERSONAL: Earned his undergraduate degree in education from NC State in 1983...While working as an assistant trainer at Memphis State, completed his masters in physical education…Ron and his wife, Candace, are the parents of son, Stevenson, a sophomore at Winters Mill (Westminster, MD) HS, and daughter Mya, a sixth grader…Ron's brother Tony is the Chicago Bears' equipment manager.
