Game Recap: Ravens Take Down Jets for Fifth Straight Win

Q4-1920x1080 (12)

The Ravens had a successful return to M&T Bank Stadium.

Playing its first home game in nearly a month, Baltimore defeated the New York Jets, 23-10, to get over .500 for the first time this season.

Here's how the Ravens' fifth straight win went down:

Turning Point

Trailing 7-3 at halftime, the Ravens opened the third quarter with an 11-play, 74-yard drive capped off with a 2-yard touchdown by Derrick Henry. Following Henry's score, the Ravens' defense forced a turnover on downs to put the offense back on the field in Jets territory. Henry waltzed into the end zone seven plays later behind a strong block by Patrick Ricard, unimpeded by any Jets defenders for another 2-yard score.

The 14 points in under six minutes put the Ravens ahead by double digits and paved the way for another Baltimore victory.

Top Play

After missing last week's game following finger surgery, Marlon Humphrey forced a critical takeaway midway through the fourth quarter. With the Jets trailing by 10 points, Humphrey ripped the ball away from Breece Hall, who was driving forward inside the 5-yard line. Alohi Gilman was quick to dive on the fumble. It marked Humphrey's second forced fumble of the season and the sixth straight game with a takeaway for Baltimore.

Stock Watch

WR Zay Flowers

Whenever the Ravens needed a critical third-down conversion, Flowers seemed to come through. The Pro Bowl receiver finished with a team-high five catches for 58 yards and forced a defensive pass interference penalty that set up Henry's second touchdown. Helping fill the void of the injured Rashod Bateman, Devontez Walker also had a critical 30-yard catch in the fourth quarter after turning around former Ravens cornerback Brandon Stephens.

OLB Dre'Mont Jones

The Ravens' trade deadline addition continued to pay dividends Sunday. Jones brought down Tyrod Taylor for his first sack as a Raven late in the first half, holding onto Taylor's leg. The sack kept the Jets from putting any more points on the board heading into the locker room. Jones finished with four tackles and 1.5 sacks and also forced a first-half punt with a bat down on third down.

QB Lamar Jackson

After missing a day of practice for a second straight week, Jackson completed 13 of 23 passes for 153 yards, marking the third straight game with under 200 yards passing for the two-time MVP. He ran seven times for 11 yards.

P Jordan Stout

Jordan Stout's breakout season continued with a career-long 74-yard punt to back up the Jets inside their own 25-yard line in the first half. The 74-yarder tied Sam Koch for a franchise record. Stout also pinned the Jets at their 5-yard line with 3:11 left in the game – a 67-yard punt that made Stout give an ear-to-ear grin on the sideline. Stout averaged 61.5 yards on four punts. Tyler Loop made all three of his field goals, including a 35-yarder to extend the Ravens' lead to 10 points with under 10 minutes remaining.
