Jets' Otah fails physical, trade on hold

NEW YORK (AP) - Newly acquired Jets offensive tackle Jeff Otah has failed his physical and been placed on the active-physically unable to perform list, meaning New York's trade with Carolina is on hold.

The Jets say Wednesday that the trade is contingent on Otah, sidelined most of the last two seasons by a nagging knee injury, passing his physical in the next seven days. New York traded an undisclosed conditional draft pick to Carolina on Monday for the former first-rounder.

The 26-year-old Otah played in only four games last season, then went on injured reserve on Oct. 19 with a left knee injury. He has missed 31 of his last 35 games.

Still, the Jets took a chance on Otah, who could push right tackle Wayne Hunter for the starting job if healthy.
