Game Recap: Ravens Fall to Lions on 'Monday Night Football'

The Ravens suffered their second loss of the season Monday night, falling to the Lions, 38-30, on "Monday Night Football" at M&T Bank Stadium.

While Baltimore had its moments of brilliance, a costly turnover and porous run defense gave the Lions too many opportunities.

Here's how it happened:

Turning Point

Trailing 28-24 midway through the fourth quarter, running back Derrick Henry coughed up a fumble on an Aidan Hutchinson punch-out that gave the ball to the Lions in the red zone. Detroit went on to score a 45-yard field goal to take a seven-point lead. Henry's fumble marked his third in as many games. The 31-year-old tailback also fumbled in Week 1 against Buffalo, which contributed to Baltimore's fourth-quarter collapse.

Top Play

Mark Andrews had his best game of the year thus far, highlighted by a diving, 14-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. He also had a 27-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter and finished with six catches for 91 yards.

Run Defense

Detroit gashed the Ravens up the middle all night, averaging 5.9 yards per carry for 224 yards and four scores. No rush hurt Baltimore more than David Montgomery's 72-yard scamper in the third quarter that set up a touchdown four plays later. And when the Ravens were clinging to their last hope of a comeback, Montgomery plunged the dagger with a 31-yard touchdown run to take a 14-point lead with 2:42 left in the contest.

Tight Ends

Through the first two games, the Ravens' tight ends had two combined catches for seven yards on five targets. Monday night, Andrews and Charlie Kolar combined for eight catches. Andrews led the way, and Kolar notched two catches for 22 yards. After a slow start, Monday was a step in the right direction for the unit, which could get Isaiah Likely back next week.

Pass Rush

The Ravens sorely missed Kyle Van Noy and Nnamdi Madubuike, two of their top pass rushers, who were both out with injuries. Baltimore had no sacks on Jared Goff, while the Lions had seven sacks on Jackson. On a night in which it was critical to slow down Detroit's run game and make Goff uncomfortable in the pocket, Baltimore struggled to do either.

Up Next

The Ravens will travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday.
