Ravens Grades and Snap Counts vs. Rams

S Alohi Gilman
S Alohi Gilman

While the Ravens dropped a fourth straight game Sunday in a 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, there were improvements heading into the bye.

The Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades and snap counts are in. Here's what stood out:

  • Five days after being traded to Baltimore, new safety Alohi Gilman made an instant impact. He played 83% of the Ravens' defensive snaps and had the team's highest tackling grade (83.3) and second-highest run defense grade (75.8). After entering the game as the NFL's leading passer, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford had a season-low 181 passing yards.
  • In his return to game action, safety Kyle Hamilton played all but one defensive snap and had the team's third-highest defensive grade (69.9). With Gilman's arrival, Hamilton played closer to the line of scrimmage. According to PFF, he lined up at slot corner for 26 snaps, in the box for 16 snaps, and at outside linebacker for eight. Hamilton played zero snaps at free safety after taking 139 snaps there over his previous four games combined.
  • In his second start stepping in for Lamar Jackson, Cooper Rush received a 53.1 grade after going 11-of-19 for 72 yards and an interception. His replacement, Tyler Huntley, had the offense's fourth-best grade at 66.2 after playing two series in the fourth quarter.
  • Trenton Simpson continues to get high PFF marks, scoring the Ravens' second-highest defensive grade with a 72.7. Simpson played 94% of Baltimore's defensive snaps. So far this season, Simpson's 81.5 run defensive grade is the highest on the team and by far the highest of his three-year career.
  • Veteran defensive tackle John Jenkins scored the Ravens' highest grade after getting a sack, causing a fumble, and recovering it himself. It was Jenkins' second forced fumble of his career and first since 2015.
  • Defensive tackle C.J. Okoye played well in his first game on the 53-man roster and was a big reason why Baltimore held the Rams to just 74 rushing yards. Okoye received a 69.9 PFF grade that was the fourth-highest on the team.
  • The Ravens had zero sacks, hits, or hurries from their outside linebackers. That unit took a hit with Tavius Robinson suffering a broken foot in the game, which led to David Ojabo playing 42% of the defensive snaps. Rookie Mike Green had the highest snap count with 77% of the action and had the defense's fifth-highest grade (65.0).
  • Left guard Andrew Vorhees scored the Ravens' highest offensive grade at 77.3 – his highest marks of the season.
  • Derrick Henry scored a 75.3 grade, which was his highest of the season. Henry rolled for 122 rushing yards on 24 carries.
  • Starting wide receivers Zay Flowers (50.3) and Rashod Bateman (50.1) had tough games. Flowers had one fumble and was part of another. Bateman had one catch for eight yards in a quiet day for the passing attack.
