Ray Rice is still in the plans for next season.
The 27-year-old running back was reportedly arrested in Atlantic City over the weekend following a domestic dispute with his fiancée, according to The Baltimore Sun. Rice was charged with simple assault-domestic violence and was then released by police.
The Ravens are still gathering information about the incident, but Newsome indicated that Rice's status for next year has not changed.
"When I left my office 20 minutes ago, and John [Harbaugh] had probably been in there probably 15 minutes before then, Ray Rice was still a big part of what we plan to do in 2014," General Manager Ozzie Newsome said Monday when addressing the media during a press conference to announce a contract extension with Terrell Suggs.
Newsome said that neither he nor Harbaugh had spoken with Rice yet, and he stood by the organization's official statement about the incident.
"I'm sure within the next 24 hours one of us will [talk with Rice]," Newsome said.
"I don't know the situation. I've only gotten what has been written. I've not had a chance to talk to Ray, I have not had a chance to talk to [Director of Security] Darren [Sanders]. So, I really don't know the situation, and up until – with me – I get all the answers, then that's when we make decisions within this organization. Once we get all the information we can get."
Rice is coming off the most disappointing season of his seven-year career. He dealt with injuries throughout the season and finished with 214 carries for 660 yards and four touchdowns. It was the first time since his rookie year that Rice failed to cross the 1,000-yard rushing mark.
Rice is entering the third year of a five-year contract that he signed before the 2012 season.
