Alohi Gilman Wins AFC Defensive Player of the Week After Touchdown Return

Ravens safety Alohi Gilman scored his first touchdown and now has his first NFL honors.

Gilman has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 15 after putting the exclamation point on the Ravens' 24-0 shutout win over the rival Bengals.

Gilman finished off a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, sprinting 84 yards after Kyle Van Noy handed him the ball following his interception of Joe Burrow.

Gilman was yelling to Van Noy to give him the lateral and the spry safety outraced the rest of the Bengals to the end zone, topping 20 mph on the way. Gilman also had eight tackles and one pass defensed. He was a big part of handing Burrow the first shutout of his NFL career.

"Anytime you do that in the NFL, it's hard to do," Gilman said. "As competitors, I think we're pissed off we lost to them the first time."

It's the first time Gilman has won the weekly award in his six NFL seasons. He's been a key part of the Ravens' defensive turnaround since Baltimore acquired him in a midseason trade with the Los Angeles Chargers.
