Jacoby Jones Compares Conditioning Test To ACT

Jacoby Jones was back on the field and back to his usual jokes Thursday in the Ravens' first full-team training camp practice.

Jones made headlines by not passing the Ravens' conditioning test on his first attempt, but got it on his second try as expected.

"I took it just about how like I took the ACT. Eventually I passed," Jones said with a laugh.

Pressed about the difficulty of the test, Jones got a tad more serious.

"Nobody likes running just for the heck of it," he said. "It is what it is. You have to take care of your business and I should have knocked it out on the first time."

Now that he's back on the field, Jones enters the training camp competition for the No. 2 wide receiver role. Jones spent some time running with the first- and second-team offenses, switching with Tandon Doss. Jones made one nice diving catch on the sideline, but was ruled out of bounds.

With Anquan Boldin traded to San Francisco, Jones is now the oldest wide receiver on the roster at 29 years old. With that, he's feeling more responsibility.

"I'm the old head now," Jones said. "Everybody else is 22, 23. It's a good thing. It's my time to try to teach some of the young guys something.

"Nobody can fill the shoes of Anquan, but we're still in sync. It's the same plays, same routes. We've just got to make the plays."

If Jones is going to get more offensive reps this season, it could cost him some time as a special teams returner, a position where he scored four touchdowns last season. Jones said he loves to play receiver, kick returner and punt returner, but is up for whatever role coaches assign.

"Whatever they want me to do, I'm going to do it," he said. "If they want me to pass the water out, I'm going to be the best water boy in the world."
