Ravens Foundation Accepting Applications For Play 60 Grant

For the 10th-consecutive year, the Ravens Foundation, Inc. is executing the Ravens PLAY 60 Grant, which provides funding of up to $5,000 to qualifying nonprofit organizations that create and/or continue programs or projects promoting physical fitness and nutrition education. The foundation is committed to improving, encouraging and enabling the healthy development of youth in the Baltimore area, as well as other parts of the state of Maryland.

The grant program continues the foundation's commitment to increasing physical activity among area youth and seeks to encourage healthy youth activities. The Ravens will consider funding requests that meet the following criteria:

  • Organizations that submit requests must be a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Programs or projects must be directed at youth (5-18)and must promote physical fitness and/or nutrition education.
  • Nonprofits must illustrate a programming component with measurable goals in order to be considered. Through the Ravens PLAY 60 Grant, the foundation will not consider funding for the construction of buildings/fields/etc.
  • Programs or projects must take place in Maryland.

The following are a few examples of grants fulfilled through this project from 2007-15:

The McKim Community Association's track and field program, which introduces children in Baltimore's Jonestown and Pleasant View Gardens neighborhoods to 60 minutes of physical activity per day, as well as providing academic enrichment over the summer break; the Baltimore Rowing Club, which consistently increases youth participation and maintains a 95 percent attendance rate; UMAR Boxing program, serving the Druid Heights neighborhood, which has aligned progress in the classroom with that in the boxing ring through their motto: "No hooks before books!"

Through this grant program, nearly $900,000 has been distributed to area nonprofits over the last nine years, funding 175 programs and impacting more than 20,000 Baltimore-area youth.
